The Writing Instruments Collection by Leathersmith

Where the Pen Meets the Page

For over 180 years, Leathersmith of London has built its reputation on one simple ritual: the act of writing by hand. Its diaries and journals have long been hand-bound in leather, each one designed to hold a lifetime of thoughts. Now, for the first time, the house completes that ritual with a collection of writing instruments crafted to match - pens and pencils made in solid 925 sterling silver, precision-engineered in England, and designed to sit as naturally in the hand as they do on the page.

Four instruments, one philosophy

The collection is built around four distinct pieces, each named after a corner of London and each designed for a different kind of writing.

Chelsea - the rollerball. Fitted with a precision-engineered Schmidt refill, the Chelsea Rollerball is built for effortless, everyday writing — smooth, fluid, and perfectly weighted for long notes or quick signatures alike.

Mayfair - the fountain pen. For those who want writing to feel more deliberate, the Mayfair Fountain Pen is fitted with a nickel-plated stainless-steel Schmidt nib, tipped with iridium for smooth, durable performance. This is the instrument for journalling, letter-writing, and the moments when ink deserves a little more weight.

Regent - the ballpoint. Reliable, effortless, and built for daily use, the Regent Twist-Action Ballpoint pairs a precision Schmidt refill with a smooth twist mechanism — the natural companion to a business meeting or a page of the Leathersmith Regent Diary.

Oxford - the mechanical pencil. Designed for the earliest stages of an idea, the Oxford Mechanical Pencil uses 0.5mm HB lead with an integrated eraser, made for sketching, drafting, and the kind of thinking that happens before the ink does.

A finish for every hand

Each instrument is available in two finishes: a polished Plain finish that lets the natural brilliance of sterling silver speak for itself, or the house's signature hand engine-turned Barleycorn guilloché - an intricate, individually engraved texture that adds both grip and character. Every piece is hallmarked by the historic Birmingham Assay Office, and presented in a luxury satin-lined Leathersmith gift box.

Built to be kept

Like every Leathersmith piece, these instruments aren't designed for a season - they're designed for a lifetime, and beyond. Refills, replacement leads, and mechanism sundries are all available separately, in blue and black, so that a favourite pen never has to be replaced - only refilled.
